1997 - GM S.P. Hong received International TKD Sparring (Olympic Style) Referee 1st Class (WTF) of the Year at the U.S. Olympic Center - during the U.S. Open. There were a total of 704 competitors. They represented 21 countries from around the world.

The Principal of Lila Art High School (Left of Alex in the front row), GM Kim Sung-Bae, was also a former master instructor at one of the Boog Sung Taekwondo Academies in Seoul, South Korea. GM S.P. Hong was a black belt TKD Student at one of the Boog Sung TKD Academies when he was young, before coming to the United States. In the front row (from right to left, 2nd person) Master Shim Hye-Young was appointed in 2012 as the Korea Olympic TKD Training Coach.
